Group psychotherapy is a form of specialist counselling with an overall aim of understanding and treating problems in a group.
In group therapy up to 8 people meet together with a group conductor. The group does not have a set agenda. This leaves group members free to talk about whatever is on their minds and to bring what they want to work on.
This kind of treatment can be particularly helpful in improving relationships both within yourself and with those around you, improving your communication and learning to manage yourself and your situations better.
The therapy is underpinned by the idea that our past experiences particularly in childhood can influence how we relate to ourselves and others and can impact our mental health. The aim of treatment would be to understand more about this and practice new ways of communicating and relating. A therapy group offers a very valuable space to feel less alone with your struggles and offers a unique opportunity to practice new ways of relating.
The groups run on a ‘slow open’ basis which means group members stay usually for a minimum of 1 year but often longer. When there is a space, new members can join.
You usually meet with the conductor of the group two or three times before joining so that they can get a sense of your struggles and to help you prepare to join a therapy group.
We offer a unique opportunity to take part in group psychotherapy in a way that is affordable and time efficient.
Group spaces are available to those undergoing training in Group Analysis.
